Hiking the Lycian Way - Likya Yolu

Ulupinar -> Fire fields Yanartas (Chimaera) -> Cirali -> Olympos

From Ulupinar, known for its trout farms and the good fish restaurants we are hiking in the Olympos National Park through beautiful deep pine forests to a mountain saddle, witch enables a magnificent view of the 2365 m high Tahtali mountain (cable car to the summit) to us. Then we walk down to the burning stones of Yanartas and Chimaira, the fire fields of Yanartas (translated burning stones). In many places erupts spitting natural gas (methane) out of the earth and burns up as blazing flames. In ancient times was worshiped in Yanartas the fire god Hephaestus by the ancient Greeks and later by the Romans the god of metalworking Vulcanos. The flames are so hot that you can cook easily lunch on this natural oven. In ancient times the by night widely visible fires were allegedly used by sailors as a lighthouse. The "Likya Yolu" trail continues to the bay of Cirali with their huge old pine trees. In the plane of Cirali we feel like being in an oversized perfume shop - enticing aromas everywhere - lemon and orange blossom, Thyme, Myrtle, huge bright yellow mimosa bushes as far as the eye can see. At the western end of the elongated pebble and sand beach lies the ancient city of Olympos.
In Cirali there are many beautiful family-run pensions. The GPS track documents the interesting hike.

Cirali -> Maden Bay -> Cirali

We start the 4 hour hike at our Pansiyon Emek in Cirali. The red-white marked trail climbs steeply through sparse pine forest. The view back to the long beach of Cirali with its imposing, giant pines trees and the behind lying Mount Moses (Musa Dagi) is gorgeous. Beautiful views downto the dream coast of the Maden Bay and the 2365 m high snow-covered summit of the Tahtali mountain. Good swimming and bathing opportunities - mid April is the sea however still very fresh.
