New Maypole for Munich Untergiesing
Every 4 to 5 years a new Maypole will be raised by the Maypole club of Munich Untergiesing on the Hans Mielich place. The Maypole festival is celebrated appropriate with Bavarian beer, white sausages, music and Bandl dance. Even the traditional "Dance into May" should not be missed. Typical of a Bavarian maypole are the beautifully designed craft panels, the cock at the Maypole top, the Bavarian lion and the blue and white diamond pattern. The craft panels represent companies and trade factories from the nearby environment in Untergiesing eg the prestigious Soccer Team 1860 Munich or the steeples of the St.Francis Church.
