Amalfi Coast - the land where lemons bloom
On the Gulf of Salerno is located one of the most beautiful coasts of Europe, the Costiera Amalfitana. Well-known places on the Amalfi Coast are Amalfi, Ravello, Atrani, Scala, Cetara, Furore, Conca dei Marini, Maiori, Minori, Vietri sul Mare, Praiano, Positano and Tramonti.
Worth seeing is the cathedral in Amalfi with its Arab-Byzantine style. The main part dates from the 13th century.
Ravello
From Villa Rufolo in Ravello we have the famous postcard view of the Amalfi Coast.
Positano, thee Pearl of the Amalfi Coast
Even the ancient Romans had discovered the beauty and charm of the mariner Positano. The colored houses are picturesquely built on the steep slopes of the mountains.
The way of the gods
Hiking trail from Agerola (district Bomerano) to Positano (about 6 hours, difference in altitude 850 m, mostly downhill) with stunning views of the Amalfi Coast.
Salerno
Salerno is archbishop's seat and since 1970 university town. In the Middle Ages, the city was famous for its medical school. Outstanding buildings are the Castello di Arechi, which is still partially from Norman times, and the widely visible cathedral with its mighty tower.
